Smart Enquiry System in Indian Railways |
For some reason, I'm writing more about topics around railway station, passenger friendly policies, etc. And, while thinking of this, I thought of another wonderful idea!
I think, this plan could be suitable for govt offices like ( Corporation Office, Railway Station Enquiry booth, Secretariat, Medical College, etc)
Here's the plan based on helping customers who ask queries in a railway station information desk!
1. In a typical railway station, there is an enquiry counter ( sahyog center) where passengers can ask all questions related to information about train service. The most common questions would be about the time of arrival of train, or related to the questions about the platform, or doubts about connecting train, etc)
2. Next thought is this - where does all these questions or answers go? It goes nowhere. There's no collection of data. So, each question from another person behind the queue is answered by the information officer.
So, what is the alternate plan!
Keep a big screen where each question and answer displayed on the screen.
Now imagine if there's an assistant (intern) in each booth who types the question given by the passenger and reply given by the help-desk person. ( usually done using a microphone)
So, the answer is visible on the screen for everyone to see. So, a person with a similar question can get it cleared without asking the same question at information desk.
Another option is this. Two or three screens will provide the same question and answer in different language. One in English, Hindi, and Regional Language. ( Also, a scan code to read it in any language)
What do you think of this plan?
Another extension of this plan. If a person scans a QR Code below the screen, then he or she can see all the listed answers. Also, each question will have the date and time. It makes it easy for the next person to see the relevance.
The same QR Code will be shared in a standee at the entrance of the station which will allow passengers to get information before they reach the enquiry booth.
Btw, what are the other purpose of using this data?
Well, I'm no data scientist. But, what I can think are simple concepts, such as using this data to understand the common questions of the day and using those questions to create a FAQ sheet near the railway counter.
Or a tag cloud could be made. It could be used by the rail authorities to understand the most common questions and find ways to provide answers upfront.
Also, these commonly asked questions will help railways to create content on their site, or create whiteboard with information of common questions!
Just as I was revising this post, I was thinking of railway stations as platform to share work of art! What art? Some art for people to ponder, think, feel good?
What if each station in India use a small space to create a art or a painting, or a frame made by a art student in a college in this that city? or it could be mural art on Monday, Modern art on Tuesday, Surreal on Wednesday, Thursday for some realistic ones, ....
What's the whole idea behind it?
1. One reason is engagement
2 Sales ( A QR code below the art piece can take them to a site which displays larger collection) People could order a copy or buy original work!
( Well, I'm stuck for more ideas related to railway planform as a place to display art and the bigger picture of this project. So, as always, I have ChatGPT as my ally to create a larger story out of it.
Here's the LINK to the BIG STORY! ( DISPLAY OF ART in INDIAN RAILWAY STATIONS)
