Let's Reboot our System! New Image for New Gen Kerala

Man with a Bottle - A whatsapp Video share

In one of the Whatsapp group, a video was shared showing how drunks in Kerala were dancing. So, somone had mixed some tune to it and it was going rounds. I didn't want to share such scenes. It puts our state in a bad light! We need a new Kerala story!

Why is causing such scenes?

If you happen to go to BEVCO outlet, you wouldn't miss seeing many die-hard drunks hanging out, buying booze from the bottle. Often in their face you can see the craving for booze - a look that tells they have just procured a precious life thing - just like an online shopper on a big sale day!

Is our system making more drunkards- limited outlets - open at limited time!

During covid especially, booze supply was limited. People had to stand in the line to buy liquor All these lead to shift in social mindset for people who were casual drinkers. And, it was not good for the society as many later turned into heavy drinkers! All b'cos, our general culture of limiting things. Yes, it's a psychological stunt we created, where we are telling public that we not promoting liquor and so we won't give permission for more outlets.

All these limiting stuff is only going to have negative effects. With rules, people try to break it and it causes other issues like spurious liquor, or the craving for the forbidden fruit rises. Why!

Is the govt liable for culpable

Despite the so-called slogans and claims of limiting booze supply will do good the society, the evidence clearly showed that it's making quite apposite effect on the society. In a way, govt across most states in India is deemed responsible for creating more demand with this kind of policy. In short, in many states in India, bootlegging is wide spread and so are the manufacture of illicit liquor. With all these knowledge, I wonder why our government is still following this route.

We know how liquor prohibition in United States has spawned the growth of mafia, bootlegging, hidden stores, corruption and the like.

Here's the side effect of prohibition/ limiting the supply of booze👇 ( Answer by ChatGPT)

Forbidden Fruit Effect: The scarcity and illegality of liquor created a "forbidden fruit" effect, where the desire to consume alcohol increased because it was limited or not available. Many people who might not have been heavy drinkers became more interested in obtaining alcohol precisely because it was not available. ( Answer by ChatGPT)

Who's Guilty? Let the Jury say!

Suppose, we have a system of jury, which decides and weights the pros and cons of the current liquor system, I bet the jury will find the government culpable of negligence, resulting in significant damage to the fabric of the society, creating broken families as many men turn to heavy drinking!

What you say!

Curious Konnections!

P.S - I used Culpable just for the sake of using it in this post. I liked the word, culpable. Other words, I like are epiphany, serendipity, spawning. Which word in English is your fav? And, why?
